Naigobya Heath Center - Medical Lab
| |
village: Naigobya
area of need: Health Care
goal: $3,200 (one time) (60% met)
status: Construction plans
partners: Friends
The most significant threats to daily life in rural Uganda is Malaria, a dibilitating and sometimes fatal disease transmitted by a bite from a certain species of mosquito. The treatment is affordable and effective, but its best to prescribe it only after a malaria diagnosis is confirmed. Naigobya has a fabulous health center, but they lack the testing facilities to quickly diagnose diseases like malaria. We are adding an 8x12 foot expansion to the current building, a solar power system, and a cooler.

The Naigobya school has continued to grow in enrollment. Additional students have been added, and an additional grade was added this year. A couple classes are currently meeting under a tree. We are providing tin and timbers, and the village is providing labor and bricks.

Nutrition Support for School Children
| |
village: Naigobya
area of need: Nutrition
status: Pilot - in progress
partners: Friends
The drought in Uganda was especially hard this year. Everyone is suffering from low crop yields when the rains are scarce. For those at the bottom of the economic ladder (vulnerable children and adults), this can result in malnutrition and even a degree of starvation. We are piloting a program of providing the inputs for a high nutrition meal, much like what Feed My Starving Children does. However, we are not packaging it here shipping, but purchasing the inputs from local sources. We are serving about 150-200 students daily.
