November 2008 Trip |
| Friday, December 19, 2008 |
The trip November 20-29 was amazing! Many of the goals for the trip focused on visiting Naigobya and checking on the progress of the various projects. It is such an honor for us to partner with these special people.
The Friends Serving Uganda partnership with the village of Naigobya began with our first visit in 2006. In the past few years, we have partnered with them on many projects. It is almost overwhelming to visit the village and experience first hand the progress that has been made. The plot of land owned by the church is now the home of a clean water bore hole, gathering place, health center, sewing training center, carpentry training center and multiple orphan school structures. (See additional blog entries for updates on these projects).
Besides the obvious physical structures that have been built in the villages, are we making a difference? While looking over the pictures from the past few years, we see positive differences in the children. Meet our little friend James. (Please note that we work with the village as a community and do not single out or sponsor individual children, but James is one of those inquisitive kids that happens to be in many of the pictures).
This picture is from 2006 and the children are standing next to the water source where the village obtained all its water. James is the little boy in front. His belly is large from malnutrition and he is not looking well.
Here is our friend James (on the right) in March of 2008. He is noticeably healthier and attending school. This is a direct result of the clean water borehole, health center, and nutrition resulting from livestock gifts and Feed My Starving Children meal donations.
We saw James many times on our recent trip. There are still many challenges but he and the children in Naigobya are doing well.
We dont know what the future holds, but it is definitely a lot brighter for James and his friends.
