Naigobya April 2008 Update |
| Saturday, April 05, 2008 |
The Naigobya Health Center was built and opened in Fall 2007 through the generosity of the ERC church family. Funds were provided for the building, latrines, an inventory of medicine and supplies, and even the first year's salary for the health workers. Joshua is the health center's lead medical professional, along with Florence (nurse) and Benoni (custodian). In the past two months, they have continued to treat hundreds of patients, many of them children. Joshua is currently starting an immunization project to ensure that children have the proper vaccines. This investment in prevention will reap future rewards of better health in the village's children, some of which are orphans.
The children of ERC have so generously given $950 towards the recently opened primary school in Naigobya for children who otherwise cannot attend public school because their parents/guardians cannot pay the school fees. These funds were gratefully received last week by Mugaddu David, the school headmaster. They will be used for school supplies and curriculum which will greatly benefit these children.
Rich Stearns, the president of World Vision, recently wrote "...some organizations have settled for the short-lived 'buzz' that comes from treating symptoms of poverty. That approach, while it helps in the short run, is the equivalent of putting buckets under a leaky roof." I'm so grateful that you are not satisfied with treating symptoms. Look at all that God has done thru you in the last two years! You have helped with efforts to provide clean water, latrines, a health center, economic opportunity (sewing machines and supplies, wedding dresses), and propped up a new primary school supporting orphans. You are truly helping "the least of these" in Naigobya, and in doing so, are serving the Lord himself. Thank you to all of you who joined God in this work of love and compassion in Jesus' name!
