Naigobya Health Center Update
   Monday, December 24, 2007

As part of our ongoing friendship with the rural village of Naigobya in Uganda, our community provided funding for a health care center months ago. Craig and Mike traveled to Naigobya in August to be part of the commissioning of this center. The health center was opened in early September, and they provided free treatment for the first month to demonstrate that health care can make a difference in quality of life. During September:

- 600 people were treated (180 under 5 yrs old)
- 360 treated for malaria (107 under 5 yrs old)
- 180 treated for pneumonia
- 62 treated for intestinal worms
- 61 treated for gastro-intestinal problems
- 40 treated for eye conditions

In October, the clinic began charging a small fee for treatment (less than $1 USD). The number of people treated dropped by almost half, but they continued to treat the above top five diagnosis in large numbers. Malaria, pneumonia, and worms are serious and sometimes deadly - together they conspire to kill almost 2 million children each year in Africa. We look forward to continued reports on how the health center and its staff, with God's blessing, are making a difference in the health of Naigobya's residents.
